In a press release, the Marine Corps wrote that the status of all four crew members is, "presumed dead pending positive identification".

"Throughout our history, there have been mishaps around here", said Naval Air Facility El Centro Public Affairs Officer Kristopher Haugh.

Marine officials are also reportedly withholding the name of the crew's squadron and the base from which it flew, and are promising more information over the next few hours.

The crash was under investigation.

On Tuesday, a CH-53E Super Stallion crashed in El Centro, Calif., killing all four people on board.

The helicopter was reportedly a CH-53E.
