First photos emerge of Syrian base allegedly targeted by Israeli air strike

While many observers initially believed the U.S. had carried out the strike in response to the Assad regime's alleged chemical attack on civilians in the Damascus suburb of Douma, Russia, Syria and Iran publicly blamed Israel.

The foreign minister's special assistant for political affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, said Iran opposes employing chemical weapons by any party which is totally unacceptable.

Syria says Israel was only able to carry out an airstrike on a central Syrian air base because of the "unlimited support of the American administration".

Israel did not acknowledge carrying out the strike.

Monday's aerial attack struck an Iranian drone section of Syria's T4 base, which was under exclusive Iranian command, he said.

Russian Federation denied any involvement in the attack. Maj.

Explosions in Riyadh as air defences 'intercept Houthi rocket'
At least one Saudi media outlet reported a drone crash at the airport had injured two airport workers. Saudi coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki accused rival Iran of being behind Wednesday's attacks.

"We have a clear and simple rule, and we always go by it - he who seeks to harm you, harm him first", Netanyahu said during a ceremony in Sderot. At least 40 people were killed in that assault, including families found in their homes and shelters, opposition activists and local rescuers said.

At the same time, Trump's declaration last week that he wants to pull U.S. troops out of northeastern Syria further undermines the impact that strikes might have on slowing the government's progress, said Faysal Itani of the Atlantic Council in Washington.

"Accepting Iranian entrenchment in Syria would be to accept Iranians putting a chokehold on us". He added that it also hit posts outside the base used by the Iranians and Iran-backed fighters.

"The timing of the strike isn't coincidental", he said.

Israeli officials have remained silent, neither claiming nor denying responsibility for the attack. Trump and Western allies have been discussing possible military action to punish Syria's President Bashar Assad for the attack.

"A military intervention under far-fetched and fabricated pretexts in Syria, where there are Russian soldiers at the request of the legitimate Syrian government, is absolutely unacceptable and could have the most dire consequences", it said.

Syria and Russian Federation on Monday accused Israel of bombing a Syrian regime airbase by using its warplanes. Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world.
