Rick Scott: I'm taking on Bill Nelson for Senate

With Florida Senate seat at stake, tensions between Scott, Rubio strain GOP relations

Some predict Scott, a multimillionaire who has self-funded past campaigns, will amass upwards of $100 million for his Senate bid, forcing Democrats to spend generous sums in Florida's 10 media markets. Florida being one of the country's most notable battleground states, the election between Scott and Nelson looks to be one of the most contentious in 2018.

"I admit that Washington is horribly dysfunctional", Scott said, according to scripted remarks made available ahead of the announcement in Orlando. Scott, a multimillionaire former health care executive, invested millions of dollars of his own money into his successful campaigns for governor in 2010 and 2014.

Scott also promoted his candidacy with a focus on jobs, terms limits for legislators and an end to what he called Washington's "dysfunctional, old, exhausted thinking".

Additional reporting from Newsy affiliate CNN.

In Scott's first campaign for governor, when he was a new name in politics, he loaned his campaign $60.4 million of the $67.6 million he spent. "I don't consider myself any type of anything", Scott told Politico. The company was ultimately fined $1.7 billion for Medicare fraud - the largest fine of its kind at the time.

The two-term Republican governor is challenging incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson in what will be one of the most expensive and hotly contested races in 2018.

The team subsequently tweeted that he had been transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Bottas did close to within a second on Vettel at the death but did not have quite enough to pass.

" I just hope whoever wins is actually representing the views of the people and if that means standing up to President Trump, that means standing up to President Trump", said Cuna. He also changed his hard-line positions on immigration. Senator Nelson may have been absent in the comments, but that may be because Rick Scott is running against Washington itself every bit as much as he's running against Nelson in specific. Bill Nelson for his seat in the U.S. Senate.

"(Scott) used the Pulse tragedy as a political prop while shamelessly touting an A-plus rating from the NRA", said Anna Eskamani, a Democratic candidate for an Orlando-area state House seat.

Scott contends Nelson has "done nothing" in the Senate on high-profile issues such as gun violence. "I would welcome (Scott's) inclusion in the race". It's about whether Rick Scott can go be a consensus builder for the state of Florida, which Sen.

"His policies had such a dramatically negative impact on the state that even he had to sign into law, and in some cases even propose, greater investment in those who interact with some of the state's more vulnerable citizens".

The Senate Majority PAC, a Chuck Schumer-aligned super PAC, released a digital ad over the weekend as part of a six-figure campaign this week blasting Scott for cutting businesses' taxes while raising property taxes and slashing education funding.
