49ers' Reuben Foster charged with three felonies in domestic violence incident

OCT. 22 2017 FILE

Foster has been scheduled for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 in Department 44 of the Hall of Justice in San Jose.

The charge stems from a February arrest for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. "Our office handles between 4,000 and 5,000 domestic violence cases each year".

The 49ers' linebacker is coming off his rookie season, one that would see him play in just 10 games. The weapon reported was a Sig Sauer 516, including a large capacity magazine. "We hope this case illuminates the tragic regularity of the rest".

Foster faces felony charges of domestic violence with an allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury, forcefully attempted to prevent a victim from reporting a crime and possessed an assault weapon.

Prosecutors say that Foster "dragged (his live-in girlfriend) by her hair, physically threw her out of the house, and punched her in the head 8 to 10 times" and that she suffered a ruptured eardrum in the attack. "We will continue to follow this serious matter", the statement continues. He faces more than 11 years in prison if convicted.

Volkswagen has appointed Herbert Diess as CEO
The surprise leadership switch is due to be finalized at a supervisory board meeting on Friday, the people said. After-tax profit rose to 11.6 billion euros ($14.3 billion) previous year , on sales of 230.6 billion euros.

In a statement Thursday after the charges were announced, the 49ers did not mention any intention to cut Foster.

"We're comfortable with the evidence we have whether (the victim) participates or not", Smith said.

Last offseason, the 49ers drafted Foster with the 31st overall pick in the first round, with his stock having slid amid concerns about his surgically repaired shoulder and perhaps his off-the-field issues. Though highly talented, Foster's injury history and character questions - he was kicked out of the Combine a year ago after both failing his drug test and allegedly mistreating a hospital worker during his medical checks, and was arrested in January while in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession - made him a risk for many teams.

The NFL said it will continue to review the matter as part of its personal conduct policy.
