Amazon Has Over 100 Million Prime Members

Amazon Has Over 100 Million Prime Members

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos revealed Wednesday that there are more than 100 million global subscribers to Amazon Prime, the company's membership program. That means Amazon brought on board more people in one year than the entire workforce of Google parent company Alphabet Inc., which said it had more than 80,000 employees at the end of last year.

In fact, the 100 million number exceeds estimates from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, which suggested that the loyalty program had 90 million subscribers in October 2017. Now analysts can stop scratching their heads, or at least less so as we still don't know exactly how many Prime Members there are and it could be a while again until Bezos talks on it.

Amazon also charges $99 annually for subscribing to the Prime program. The company has never released Prime revenue numbers, average order value per member or member retention rates.

During 2017, Amazon's Echo Dot and Fire TV stick were the best selling items of all categories and all manufacturers across all the company's websites around the world, Bezos said. Consumer intelligence research has shown that Amazon Prime members shop on the site almost twice as often as non-prime members. The updated number highlights the growth of the company's subscription service, which Amazon has pushed heavily over the years as a way to retain customers that in turn fuel its core retail business with each purchase.

Mainz top Freiburg after VAR drama
The game also had to be delayed at the start of both halves as fans protested against the match being played on a Monday night. There were some weird scenes at the end of the first half when players left the pitch for the break with the score at 0-0.

Once members have access to free shipping, they immediately begin ordering more on Amazon and less elsewhere.

In 2017, Amazon celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Frustration-Free Packaging, the first of several sustainable packaging initiatives that have eliminated more than 244,000 tons of packaging materials over the past 10 years.

Bezos did not provide a precise figure, but the total number of Amazon Music subscribers is likely to be substantially less than Spotify's 70 million or Apple Music's 36 million.

Talking about Amazon's voice assistant Alexa, he wrote, "Finally, we've dramatically reduced the amount of time required to teach Alexa new languages by using machine translation and transfer learning techniques, which allows us to serve customers in more countries (like India and Japan)". Amazon has expanded Prime to Mexico, Singapore, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, even as it introduced Business Prime Shipping in the USA and Germany.
