Missouri's Beleaguered Governor Wants His Day in Court

The Missouri governor said he stands by the work he's done with The Mission Continues and maintained that he will prove his innocence in court.

State Attorney Josh Hawley also commented on the charges by saying, "St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner reviewed the evidence turned over to her by my office and determined that there is probable cause to file criminal charges against the Governor".

In a statement late Friday, Hawley said his office is ready to help St. Louis Circuit attorneys "when appropriate". These are serious charges-and an important reminder that no one is above the law in Missouri. Greitens also faces a felony charge related to accusations from his former mistress who alleges he bound her hands with tape, put a blindfold on her, took a partially nude photo of her and then threated to release the photo if she mentioned his name, according to a Missouri House committee report.

Hawley said his investigation revealed evidence that Greitens' use of the charity's donor list broke the law. The new charge accuses Greitens of disclosing the donor list from The Mission Continues in 2015 without permission from the St. Louis-based charity that Greitens founded.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner is overseeing both cases against the governor. He has called her a "reckless liberal prosecutor" for leading the investigation that resulted in the invasion-of-privacy charge.

Earlier this week, Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley held a press conference to say he believed there was probable cause to charge Greitens in the matter - and said he was turning over the case to the circuit attorney.

Earlier this month, a House committee released an investigative report detailing damaging claims against Mr. Greitens, including sworn testimony from his former hairdresser that he had slapped her and once coerced her into performing oral sex. "And the time for truth is coming", Greitens said in a statement.

"Her case is falling apart-so today, she's brought a new one", Mr. Greitens said, in a written statement in which he pledged that he will clear his name.

Assad appears confident on Syria state TV
Syria condemned the attack as a "flagrant violation of the global law", according to Syria's official SANA news agency. It's a big institution, but Sayed said it isn't possible that things were going on that he didn't know about.

Greitens released a statement Friday night attacking Gardner, contending that the new charges come after Gardner mishandled the other prosecution. He says the Democratic prosecutor "will use any charge she can to smear me".

Hawley said Tuesday there is no evidence of wrongdoing by the charity, only Greitens.

The felony invasion of privacy case against the governor will continue. His attorneys, in court hearings and filings, have painted a picture of an incompetent prosecutor who rather than working with police to investigate Greitens hired a private investigator who bungled the investigation, hid evidence and lied to the court.

Greitens' attorney, Ed Dowd, called the charge absurd.

Greitens' explanation was, "We were calling people who had become friends and gotten to know me over the course of seven years, who invested in The Mission Continues and got to know me as a leader".

House Minority Gail McCann Beatty, a Kansas City Democrat, has already introduced a resolution to begin impeachment proceedings.

Gardner's office began investigating after KMOV-TV in St. Louis first reported on the affair on January 10, the day Greitens was giving his annual State of the State speech.

"One way or another, Eric Greitens' short tenure as Missouri governor is about to end". And she is using thousands and thousands of taxpayer dollars to do all of this.
