Semi in intersection at time of Humboldt Broncos bus crash: RCMP

Vigil 2

The mission of the foundation is to support everyone affected by the team's bus crash, including players, employees, families, volunteers, other hockey teams, emergency first responders and communities, he said, emphasizing that only money directed to the foundation will be considered as endorsed and sanctioned by the team.

The ministry couldn't comment on the "potential outcome" of the Humboldt investigation, but it did say possible sanctions after this type of collision might include fines, suspensions or criminal charges "depending on the nature and severity of the infraction".

Almost two weeks after Ryan Straschnitzki and the rest of his Humboldt Broncos hockey team were involved in a devastating, deadly crash on a rural Saskatchewan highway, the Airdrie native will be continuing his recovery at home in Alberta. RCMP say it is to soon in the investigation to say whether the truck driver blew through the stop sign.

The intersection north of Saskatoon was closed Thursday because investigators were doing more tests and analysis. More interviews are scheduled in the coming days and weeks.

While few details were available, Zablocki said investigators are certain that the tractor-trailer unit was in the intersection of Highway 335 and 35 when the team bus collided with the trailer on April 6.

Zablocki said the collision investigation and reconstruction involves determining the factor or factors that would cause or contribute to a collision. Sixteen have since died. He was immediately taken into custody - which police have previously described as routine - and released later that evening.

How do pilots handle something like this? "I'm impressed that in this emergency that they thought about controllability", he said. The airline, in a statement, said it would conduct ultrasonic inspections of fan blades in the CFM56 engine used in the 737-700.

"He's feeling good now and going to the doctor", said Singh, who added the driver is still in counselling.

Sukhmander Singh, the owner of Calgary-based Adesh Deol Trucking Ltd., which was involved in the crash, said the driver is doing better.

"We want to answer the question of why the truck was in the intersection", Zablocki said. In addition to those who were killed, nine people remain hospitalized with two in critical condition, according to ESPN.

Police have recovered "all available documentation" from the scene, including driver log books "looking at hours of work, rest time, brake checks and compliance with safety standards", Zablocki said. Humboldt resident Sylvie Kellington started the fundraising effort.

The RCMP is expected to provide an update today on the status of its investigation into the Humboldt Broncos bus-truck collision earlier this month.
