Gmail's Big Redesign Is Rolling Out Now. Here's What to Look For

How to get the new Gmail right now

Google is building AI into all its products, and there are a handful of new smart Gmail features rolling out as part of the update. You can download the new app for iPhone and iPad from the App Store now. The second is a smart feature that suggests you unsubscribe from newsletters you rarely open. The most obvious change is the new look which is more in keeping with the aesthetics of Material Design, but it's the new features that Google is most keen to talk about.

But let's start from the beginning.

Even those who do choose to use the new version right away will not experience a big bang. You can edit and even add new events right from the inbox. Unless you've started using the more simplified, predictive Inbox app, Google's ubiquitous email client has stayed more or less the same for quite a while. The new option also requires them to enter a one-time passcode sent to their phones to read it. Alongside regular features like archive and mark as read, users can now also snooze emails. If you don't like them, you can go back to classic Gmail by navigating to the same area. However, if you're impatient then there's a way to get the update right now.

One other AI-powered addition to Gmail is a nudging feature.

Nudges. If an message sits in your inbox and you haven't responded to it, Gmail may bump it to the top of your inbox and ask if you want to respond to it.

After rumours from earlier this month, Smart Reply on Gmail's web interface has been rolled out in the New Gmail - nearly a year after it came to the mobile version.

Ex-New York Mayor joins Trump's legal team
One person close to the White House expressed surprise that Giuliani would accept a job under such challenging conditions. Giuliani said he would spend a "great deal of time" in Washington working with Trump, but would continue to live in NY .

Speaking of security, the new Gmail will bring you new warnings to highlight the potentially malicious emails coming through.

The upshot of doing it this way means Google has been able to build some other clever functionality on top: These emails can now be set to expire, or you can revoke access to its contents (effectively the recipient is viewing the contents on a space that you control).

Google is introducing an array of new security features for G Suite email, as well as consumer Gmail, including the ability to delete messages you've already sent, the company announced Wednesday.

But wait, there's more (did I mention this is a major update?).

As The Verge notes, snoozing has been present in third-party apps for a while now, but this is the first time you'll be able to access it directly from Gmail itself. This new capability will launch in the coming weeks. This essentially pre-populates basic replies that you can send with a click for less typing.

Meanwhile, recent high-profile corporate data breaches have increased desire to lock down email. It has been integrated into a much more useful, nicer-looking way to make lists. The default setting is the most interesting option because it comes with a new feature, too: attachment clips. The chosen messages will disappear from view before bouncing back into the inbox after the specified delay.
