Amber Rudd to resign over Windrush scandal?

Racists—Amber Rudd and Theresa May

Amber Rudd faced fresh calls to resign on Thursday after admitting the home office set strict local targets for removing migrants who were in the United Kingdom illegally, having previously told MPs her department did not set targets.

For almost two weeks, British ministers have been struggling to explain why some descendants of the so-called "Windrush generation", invited to Britain to plug labor shortfalls between 1948 and 1971, had been labeled as illegal immigrants.

Asked if the Prime Minister retained full confidence in Amber Rudd, despite the ongoing controversies over Windrush and immigration removal targets, the spokesman said: "Yes".

A 2015 report that came to light yesterday showed the Home Office did set targets for voluntary departures of people who could not lawfully stay in the UK.

"I have never agreed there should be specific removal targets and I would never support a policy that puts targets ahead of people", she said.

'The immigration arm of the Home Office has been using local targets for internal performance management.

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and Shadow Home Secretary Dianne Abbot have called for Rudd, who succeeded Theresa May in the position in 2016, to resign over the scandal.

She added: "If it's true that posters were displayed to remind staff of these targets, how is it possible that the home secretary and the director general of borders, immigration, and citizenship were not fully aware of this?"

Home secretary Amber Rudd is under fire to resign after being forced to apologise in the House of Commons for the fourth time in two weeks, after being accused of lying to parliament about immigration targets.

She vowed to ban them if they were being used "inappropriately". Labour MP David Lammy said: "I asked the minister at the last urgent question how many people had been deported".

It was also argued that The Rajya Sabha Chairman could not reject the notice if it met the requirements of 50 signatures. Congress had also dropped hints of moving the Supreme Court if the petition is rejected by the Vice President .

Some of the Windrush migrants have been made homeless, lost their jobs, threatened with deportation and denied benefits, according to the Guardian newspaper.

She was asked to produce a "list of information", Furniss said, including her parents' passports, school records, medical records "and so fourth. and she was just absolutely shocked. she did feel very upset".

"These were not published targets against which performance was assessed". "I'm confident that we will see a marked change in tone".

Abbott said that Rudd should resign as a matter of "honour", after it transpired that a deportation target was in place for immigration officers.

Rudd responded: "We don't have targets for removals".

She told MPs: "We don't have targets for removals".

Elsewhere in Wednesday's committee hearing, Rudd outlined her plans to create a "more personal service at UKVI" and to change the culture at the Home Office.

In her evidence to the committee, Ms Rudd rejected suggestions that the Conservatives' goal of reducing net migration below 100,000 had contributed to the Windrush problem.

She added: "If you are asking me if there are numbers of people we expect to be removed, that's not how we operate".

The targets are referred to as regional because they were divided up between 19 immigration enforcement teams across the UK.
