The Armenian parliament has voted against naming protest leader Nikol Pashinian as the country's new prime minister.

"We propose Nikol Pashinyan's candidacy for the post of the head of the Armenian government", Ararat Mirzoyan said at the parliamentary session.

However, local media outlets reported early on Tuesday that the sole candidate for the post has announced in a video message posted on his Facebook page that the Republican deputies have made a decision to thwart the scheduled vote.

While Pashinyan had declared Monday as a "Day of Silence" ahead of Tuesday's vote, the political developments were anything but silent.

Under Armenia's constitution, the failure of parliament to confirm a prime minister triggers a second vote by the legislature that has been scheduled for May 8.

"I would like to warn you that your attempts to interpret the tolerance of the popular movement as weakness could cause unexpected and undesirable consequences", Pashinyan said, addressing members of the ruling Republican Party from the rostrum.

Federal judge dismisses Manafort civil suit against Mueller
They also asked Jackson to issue an order protecting Manafort from future prosecutions by Mueller. Manafort, one of 22 individuals and entities charged by Mueller so far, has pleaded not guilty.

We will remind, on April 13 and continue in Yerevan rallies demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan, who had already twice been President.

The National Assembly is meeting in a special session today for the vote.

He attached importance to elections as a source for people to see themselves as the power holders, adding only when the official who has received people's votes serves them that the sides admit they have won or lost in the fair elections, thus the political thinking develops and the world can accept that Armenia is a democratic nation.

The candidate for the PM's post said that in order to protect against Azeri aggression, the Armenian people need to concentrate their potential and mobilize all forces.

Some Armenians saw Sarksyan's bid for the prime minister's job as a cynical ploy to extend his grip on power.

Opposition members of parliament joined Pashinyan in warning that a vote against him would be a vote against the tens of thousands of people who joined the anti-government rallies in recent weeks. He later changed his mind inviting the supporters to gather on Republic Square at 11 a.m. local time (10 a.m. Moscow Time).
