Cracked Window Forces Southwest Airlines Jet To Make Emergency Landing

Lieutenant Tammie Jo Shults was one of the first women to fly Navy tactical aircraft

Southwest Airlines spokeswoman Brandy King said that the pilots made a decision to land in Cleveland "for maintenance review" of one layer in a multi-layered window pane.

Southwest said in a statement that flight 957, with 76 passengers onboard, "landed uneventfully in Cleveland".

Southwest Airlines passengers received another shock Wednesday after a large crack appeared in a window just two weeks after a tragic accident saw a woman partially sucked out of a plane. While he notes that a full investigation of Flight 1380 is warranted, he believes what happened with Flight 957 was likely a freak incident.

Southwest says the plane maintained pressure and no emergency landed was requested. After taking a sharp bank and diving, the pilot regained control, and the aircraft made a safe emergency landing in Philadelphia.

What caused a plane window to break?

"There was a loud pop and then the pilot came out and then checked things out and then he announced we had to divert to Cleveland", Speros, visibly shaken, said after landing at the New Jersey airport. "Everything ok but scary", one of her texts read.

Lion mauls South African sanctuary owner in enclosure
A wildlife park owner was savagely mauled by a lion in front of screaming onlookers after he entered the animal's enclosure. The video sparked debate on social media, with some criticizing Hodge for entering the enclosure.

Upshaw said the startling noise was "enough you heard it like five rows from the crack". So far, the cause is not known.

The airline has since ordered inspections of the engine model that failed on that flight, but a passenger has sued the airline, alleging post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression.

Pictures on social media show heavy cracks in the window of the Southwest Airlines aircraft.

"It sounded like somebody had stood up and opened the overhead and slammed it shut with a lot of force", said passenger Joel Lanoue. The passengers were put on another Southwest flight and arrived in Newark just after 1 p.m., the airline said.

Passengers on the plane told United States media there was no panic and people in the row near the window moved to other seats.
