Gas prices at highest rate since 2014

The price of a gallon of gasoline has been on the rise in Greater Williamsburg since Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and Louisiana's oil operations

Gas prices across the country are the highest they have been in four years.

An organization spokesman says crude oil prices topped $68 a barrel on Monday, and the spiking cost of crude as well as increased demand during the summer travel season will continue to drive up prices at the pump.

Gas prices have hit highs that drivers haven't seen since 2014 as the prices at the pump keep creeping upward.

Last time the average price of a gallon of gas in CT was above $3 was in December of 2014.

AAA spokeswoman Marilyn Buskohl said prices could go up by another 10 cents through Memorial Day, but then would likely stabalize through the summer.

That's up $0.06 from last week, and $0.17 over the past two weeks, and $0.43 higher than where we were on this same day previous year.

The least expensive gas price averages in Georgia were in Augusta-Aiken at $2.63 per gallon, Warner Robins at $2.64 and Columbus at $2.64.

Many local gas stations are charging over $3 a gallon.

Oil pares gains, market supported by Iran worries
A strong US dollar also weighed on crude prices, as the USA dollar index hit its highest level since January. Brent crude futures were last down 2 cents at $74.62 a barrel by 1422 GMT, up from a session low of $73.47.

"There's not a lot of good news for Vancouver drivers right now". Could it push to more than $3 a gallon? Throughout the month, the state average rose a total of 16 cents.

Finally, Dehaan points out, refineries are switching over to the more expensive summer blend of gasoline.

Gas prices fell in Baton Rouge last week bucking a trend of recent increases at gas stations in the area.

Pa. Turnpike tolls also are 6 percent higher this year.

The price of USA crude oil has been on a steady incline since last June, last week hitting $68.64, the highest since December 2014.

AAA's April 30 survey of prices in MA finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.75 per gallon. I was shocked yesterday when I paid $2.85 a gallon for regular. OPEC cutbacks have led to reduced oil supplies in the U.S.as well. Fuel costs are going up, just in time for summer.

The U.S. daily national average for regular gasoline is now $2.82 per gallon.
