Theresa May crowned 'Brexit Queen' by Tory Eurosceptic MP

PA Wire On Monday the unelected House of Lords attempted to tie the hands of the Government

The Prime Minister has two main options - although the European Union would need convincing of either.

Downing Street has spent the last few days intensely lobbying ministers including David Davis, Liam Fox and Boris Johnson on the benefits of the so-called hybrid model, under which the United Kingdom would collect European Union import tariffs on behalf of Brussels.

The UK's future involvement with the EU customs union has sparked renewed debate in the country's legislature, with parliamentarians taking a series of votes in recent weeks on the subject even as Brexit negotiations continue.

U.S. President Donald Trump meets with British Prime Minister Theresa May during the U.N. General Assembly in NY, U.S., September 20, 2017.

Mr Robbins is understood to regard the partnership as a means of avoiding a hard border in Ireland while keeping the United Kingdom out of the European customs union.

In parliament, May said there were a number of ways to solve the customs issue, in what seemed to suggest that her government could be looking beyond the two proposals already made.

The report reiterates previous warnings to May's government that any U.S. administration - particularly one led by President Trump - will be keen for Britain to lower its standards in areas like agriculture.

Chair of the Committee Dr Andrew Murrison MP said he was repeating an invitation first made in March, and that "to date, we have not seen a worked up, coherent proposals that would allow the United Kingdom to be freed from the structures of the Customs Union and Single Market and avoid additional infrastructure at the border".

Karnataka : Modi left door open with JD(S)
After the strikes, one Congress leader had called Army chief General Bipin Rawat a "gunda [thug]", Modi alleged . The people of the State never accepted the risky RSS ideology.

The warning, which arch-Hard Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg on BBC Radio 4 denied was an ultimatum to the PM, is the latest in a string of interventions by elements of the Conservative Party, whose supporters overwhelmingly backed Brexit and who fear that Mrs May and figures such as Chancellor Philip Hammond may seek to dilute the degree of separation from Europe.

Her spokesman said earlier this week the government would "move forward with a single option", but the question is when?

The paper acknowledges, though, that the European Union would be required to implement equivalent arrangements at its borders to make any such scheme a success.

And former Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith told the Daily Telegraph that the ERG report had killed the argument for the customs partnership "stone dead".

This has been rejected by both the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union and Brussels, which Cooper claimed is "quite a triumph for the Government to have come up with a proposal whose unworkability has managed to unite Brussels and the Brexit Secretary".

Mrs May has asked for more work to be done on both options. However Wednesday's meeting is not expected to reach a final decision on the proposals.

The European Union 27 expect that the so-called "backstop" solution - Northern Ireland remaining in the EU customs union and large parts of the single market - be given full legal effect in the Withdrawal Agreement, the binding treaty that guides the United Kingdom out of the EU.

"The Prime Minister's calculations have got to include exactly what reaction there would be from the parliamentary party and the wider Conservative Party if we were to enter into that sort of relationship".
