Bodycam footage of police breaching Las Vegas shooter's room is released

The Latest Police release Las Vegas shooting officer video

Newly released police body camera video shows just what police were dealing with as they approached gunman Stephen Paddock's hotel room the night of the deadliest mass shooting in modern USA history.

Police released almost three hours of footage which shows two officers going through the floors of the Hotel Mandalay where Paddock was holed up after opening fire on concert goers attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival last October. "There's a shooter! He's shot and killed multiple people already", an officer shouts as he passes on the hunt for the man who killed 58 people from his high-rise hotel suite.

An officer is at one point heard asking another officer to examine a note Paddock left on a table. As they move forward, they're heard identifying a camera, spotting a rifle, and saying they're going to check under the bed. "There are many reasons why we didn't or couldn't release hundreds of records and bodycam [footage] immediately after this incident", he said. And when it was over, police say, Paddock turned one of his guns on himself.

Authorities released footage Wednesday from two officers' body-worn cameras as they responded to gunfire that rained down on a concert crowd from a Las Vegas Strip casino-hotel last fall.

California attorney and concert survivor Brian Claypool says the videos provide no context or glue to put the puzzle together.

Lombardo said he did not have the staff necessary to review all the footage and prepare it for release.

The officers race to several floors, issuing warnings to people in the lobby to take cover or run, with one shouting, "Lock the door, your door was open, there's someone shooting inside the casino".

Lion mauls South African sanctuary owner in enclosure
A wildlife park owner was savagely mauled by a lion in front of screaming onlookers after he entered the animal's enclosure. The video sparked debate on social media, with some criticizing Hodge for entering the enclosure.

The footage also does not show what the first officer through the door saw because he didn't activate his body camera. A lawsuit by The Associated Press and other media prompted the videos' release.

"I want the community to know the release of the videos, 911 and documents will have a significant impact on the victims of this tragedy". But the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas went on.

The sheriff denied suggestions that law enforcement was trying to "hide anything" related to the shooting, saying that cost considerations, as well as concerns about the potential trauma to those affected by the shooting, had been factors in the delayed release. "And for that, we apologize".

The timeline raised questions about why police didn't arrive on the scene sooner.

"It's fascinating as a result of that is nonetheless probably the most extreme mass capturing in US historical past, the numbers of people that had been injured and killed had been nonetheless the very best and most extreme... and but this story has fallen silent", she added.

"In the public space, the word "incompetence" has been brought forward. Nobody is attempting to hide anything in reference to this investigation", Lombardo said at the time. "Primarily, we are still investigating all the circumstances".
