N. Korea Invites 8 S. Korean Reporters to Nuclear Test Site Dismantling

Donald Trump says North Korea is'very smart for planning to close nuclear site

Satellite images show that North Korea has already started dismantling the Punggye-ri nuclear test site, potentially a big win for the global community, which has been trying to get this rogue nation to stop testing nukes for years.

"Several key operational support buildings, located just outside the North, West and South Portals, have been razed" since April 24, write Frank V. Pabian, Joseph S. Bermudez Jr. and Jack Liu.

North Korea meanwhile said over the weekend that all of the tunnels at the country's northeastern nuclear test site will be destroyed by explosion in less than two weeks, ahead of Kim Jong-un's summit with Donald Trump. The North has vowed to pursue nuclear development unless Washington removes its 28,500 troops from South Korea and the nuclear umbrella defending South Korea and Japan.

North Korea pledged to close the testing ground after Kim last month declared the country's nuclear force complete and said it had no further need for the complex.

"DPRK will join global desires and efforts for a total ban on nuclear tests", North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Han Tae-song said in an address to the Conference on Disarmament, using North Korea's official acronym.

Mr. Guterres also expressed hope that progress over shutting down North Korea's nuclear programme would provide an impetus to address other challenges elsewhere in the world.

We will remind, the decision on the closure of the landfill was made during the inter-Korean summit North Korean leader Kim Jong-UN and the leader of South Korea, moon Jae-In. Trump called the action "a very smart and gracious gesture!" on Twitter and told reporters that the process "is very important".

Jacqueline Ades of Phoenix was arrested Tuesday and slapped with charges of threatening and intimating, stalking and harassment. She said that she "knew her statements were insane and that she would return to Florida when released", the report alleges.

Dialogue brokered by South Korea has seen US-North Korea relations go from trading personal insults and threats of war previous year to a summit between Kim and Trump which will be held in Singapore on June 12.

The North said it will hold a ceremony at the site next week to allow local and worldwide journalists to witness the efforts.

Earlier on May 12, 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Korea announced in a public ceremony about the of closing the Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site.

North Korea, which claims that the issue has already been resolved, "allowed five of the abductees, who were used to teach their language and culture to North Korean agents, to return to Japan with their families in 2002, but insists that eight others died and that the remaining four never entered the country", Guardian reported.

"North Korea's diplomacy has always been a repeat of hardline and appeasement", Thae added.

The two leaders signed a joint statement that committed both to deepening ties and working towards reunification after the meeting on April 27, which saw Kim become the first North Korean leader to set foot in South Korea since the Korean War, which took place from 1950-1953 prior to an armistice agreement.
