Imran lashes out at Nawaz Sharif over Mumbai attacks statement

Nawaz Sharif agrees to Pakistan's involvement in Mumbai attack

Sharif on Saturday questioned the role of militant outfits in cross-border terrorism in his interview published in Dawn newspaper.

"We need to understand the ongoing dynamics and should support our armed forces shoulder to shoulder", he added stressing that an worldwide conspiracy to isolate Pakistan is being hatched.

Sharif, who was answering a question about his ouster, steered the conversation towards foreign policy and national security by saying that Pakistan has isolated itself in global arena despite giving sacrifices in war on terror. The story of Afghanistan was accepted, but not ours.

On May 11, Sharif in an exclusive interview to a Pakistan daily, The Dawn, had said that terrorists sent by Pakistan were responsible for the 26/11 attacks.

However, Abbasi said that the NSC did not condemn Sharif, but incorrect reporting of the interview.

For the first time, Sharif also questioned Pakistan's policy to allow the "non-state actors" to cross the border and "kill" people in Mumbai, according to a media report. Explain it to me. "Why can't we complete the trial".

What he was referring to is the stalled trial in a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court. [Russian] President Putin has said it.

"You can't run a country if you have two or three parallel governments". This has to stop.

To a query on Karnataka exit polls, she said the BJP would form the government in the State.

The National Security Committee (NSC), which reviewed the statement, was chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar.

Abbasi, who was elected the PM after Nawaz Sharif was ousted as the country's premier by the Supreme Court in the Panamagate judgement, reiterated his support for his predecessor.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has been in the state of war since from the day of partition.

Hours after the council's meeting, Sharif doubled down on his position, saying Pakistan was being isolated internationally due to its reputation.

Mr Sharif is facing ire for "harming national interests" from opponents as well as some of the estranged leaders from his Pakistan Muslims League-Nawaz (PML-N) party for allegedly supporting the Indian narrative on the attack case.

The Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) was believed to have plotted the 26/11 attacks. "It shows the vast diplomatic pressure on Pakistan on issue of terrorism & rigorous efforts by Narendra Modi government which has nearly cornered Pakistan on every aspect", he said.

"Besides many other refusals during the investigation, the denial of access to the principal accused, Ajmal Qasab, and his extraordinarily hurried execution became the core impediment in the finalisation of the trial", the Pakistan NSC statement said.
