Lewis Hamilton Wins the 2018 Spanish GP — Twitter Reacts

Lewis Hamilton of Great Britain driving the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team Mercedes WO9 on track during practice for the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix at Circuit de Catalunya

Max Verstappen, who ran into Williams' Sergey Sirotkin, took third with a broken left front-end plate for his first podium of the season. "You can only take it one race at a time", he said. "To get a one-two in qualifying is fantastic for the team". The team did an exceptional job.

"I think it probably impacted more on us than the others".

He continued, "I was much happier with the auto".

"This has happened before", said Raikkonen.

"I think today has been a rejuvenating experience", Hamilton told reporters.

Vettel said he was "not entirely happy" but already expected Mercedes to be strong. That happiness and that uplift from inside that I have that feeling.

Hamilton should have kick-started his season with a victory at the opening rubber in Australia before a strategy mix-up by his Mercedes team gifted Vettel the win.

Brendon Hartley, Marcus Ericsson and the thrice-lapped Sergey Sirotkin, who had an excursion through Turn 9's gravel at the VSC restart, completed the finishers.

Hamilton is now standing at the top spot in the drivers' championship, maintaining a lead of just four points over Vettel. Alonso often starts well in Spain, and as the only driver on super-softs he should get a better launch from the line than the rest of the top ten. "I believe our auto is very fast, we still need a bit more top speed but hopefully that will come". However, Ferrari caught everyone by surprise when they made a decision to call Vettel in the pits (under the VSC period) for the second time.

"I know they went softer but.the working range is far narrower than it was past year".

"Overall we were a little bit quicker [than Verstappen] but as the laps went on, we just didn't have enough pace", he added. Obviously, if you look from the outside it's easy. Find us on Facebook too! I'm almost in the groove.

The lack of performance from Ferrari would be alarming. His pole position, taken after a close battle with teammate Valtteri Bottas and Vettel, was greeted with relief. On the mediums, his Ferrari could manage only half of the number of laps (24) as Bottas (47). The next race on the calendar is the Monaco Grand Prix on 27 May. "Overall it has been a decent weekend, we just need to understand what to do with these tyres". "So our ambition has to be that we're better off rather than worse off", reasoned Vettel.

More Protests Along Palestinian Border
On Monday, American officials marked the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem , which had been relocated from Tel Aviv. Nikki Haley denied that Monday's deaths had anything to do with the US decision to open its embassy in Jerusalem .

"They appear to be a lot harder than previous year", he said. We had a read what the track was like.

The other issue for Ferrari was their unreliability.

Mercedes' vehicle is fast and both Hamilton and Bottas are blistering quick, but in the race Ferrari might just prove to be quicker. The speed is there and the driveability is much better than Mercedes' auto.

The Formula One world remains divided over whether Ricciardo or Verstappen was most responsible for their mid-race crash as the Australian attempted to pass at the Azerbaijan GP.

Verstappen then hit back of Sirotkin, but despite sustaining damage to his front wing, held off Vettel with relative ease. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) +26.873, 4.

"Generally, he likes spinning, but on the first lap is not a good time to do it with everyone there".

Behind the leading four, despite being fast and setting the fastest lap of the race, Daniel Ricciardo brought the second Red Bull home in fifth.

He had less success, though, when Ferrari opted to bring him in again under the virtual safety auto on Lap 42. Kevin Magnussen (Haas): +1 lap 7. Sergio Perez (Force India), 10.

Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly and Renault's Nico Hulkenberg were unsighted and could do little to avoid Grosjean as they both crashed into his out-of-control auto. Grosjean, whose spin caused the accident, will be heading to the stewards after the race.

And finally, it wasn't only a Ferrari power unit that suffered troubles. A lap later, McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne retired, propulsion lost out of the last corner.

The 2018 Spanish Grand Prix further highlighted two things.
