BSF jawan killed as Pakistan violates ceasefire along IB in Jammu

A 28-year-old BSF jawan was killed as Pakistani troops opened fire at forward posts in Manguchak area on Tuesday to help infiltrators cross over.

He said that the terrorists had sneaked in using a tunnel.

He said this (infiltration attempts and Pakistani firing) was a "very serious incident" because it had happened ahead of the scheduled visit of prime minister to the state on 19 May.

I am sure that they will be detected and neutralised, Sharma said.

Referring to the latest incidents along the global border, Sharma said a group of five infiltrators may have sneaked in, while another attempt was scuttled.

With the death of Constable Devender, the number of persons killed due to Pakistan shelling along the IB and Line of Control (LoC) has risen to 33, the highest this year. Army helicopters are carrying out search operations in the area.

The deceased include 17 security personnel. There was a lull in firing noted along the IB in the past 3 months after intense border skirmishes in January and February. The border along the IB has been witnessing he frequent ceasefire violation by Pakistan since last few months.
