Transcripts shed light on Trump Jr.'s meeting with Russian lawyer

US Senator Chuck Grassley speaks with reporters on Capitol Hill in Washington US

"The Russian effort was extensive, sophisticated, and ordered by President (Vladimir) Putin himself for the objective of helping Donald Trump and hurting Hillary Clinton", Warner said. It lasted four minutes and came sandwiched between two phone calls Mr Trump Jr had with Emin Agalarov, an Azerbaijani-Russian businessman and music star who was pushing for the Trump Tower meeting.

And Trump Jr.'s testimony?

White House advisor Jared Kushner and former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort were forwarded the email chain ahead of the meeting.

Up to this point, the president could play ignorant about the issue. Most notably, the President's eldest son minimized how involved Trump was in crafting a July 2017 statement aboard Air Force 1 that served as the family's initial public comment on the Trump Tower meeting. "The public can now see that for over five hours I answered every question asked and was candid and forthright with the committee". Trump Jr. said he has no idea.

The president's son told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he loved the idea of obtaining "potential information about an opponent" during the meeting.

That's a far cry from a definitive "no" answer, and should trouble every American about whether our president had indeed been attempting to collude with Russian Federation.

Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley had announced in January he would release the transcripts of the private staff interview with Trump jnr and others who attended the meeting. He did so after receiving emails that described an outreach, via a series of intermediaries, from Russia's top federal prosecutor, Yuri Chaika, offering help to the Trump campaign. "I believe there was a meeting there". It's a matter worth pursuing, if only to let the American people know the fiendish means Trump was willing to go to in order to reach his desired ends.

Committee Democrats said the details about the meeting revealed in the new trove of documents confirm an inappropriate relationship between Trump campaign aides and the Russian government.

At this point the captain said we were getting the hell out of there, so I have no idea what happened. Her role in the program was addressed several times during her confirmation hearing this week.

Wednesday's release also contains transcripts and notes from several other witnesses at the meeting.

According to the transcripts, Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya never presented any information regarding Clinton to the group present at the meeting.

But the panel released her written responses to a letter that Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley sent her previous year.

Trump Jr. told the Russians he was too busy with the campaign to look into the story they proposed, but he offered to discuss possible changes to the Magnitsky Act if his father won the election, according to Kaveladze.

The interviews were part of the panel's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Nunes, who became the subject of an ethics inquiry a year ago, delegated day-to-day oversight of the panel's Russian Federation investigation to Rep. Michael Conaway, R-Texas, but remained peripherally involved, approving subpoenas and other related actions.

The committee did release one page of notes that Manafort took during the meeting.

The transcripts say Trump Jr. didn't recall informing the president about the meeting, which has been a key focus of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.
