Syria's Assad Meets With Russia's Putin In Sochi

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad flew to Russian leader Vladimir Putin's summer residence on the Black Sea for talks on Thursday about the Syrian conflict, the Kremlin said, a visit that underscored Moscow's status as Assad's chief backer.

The Russian president said the terrorists have laid down their arms in key locations in Syria, allowing for the restoration of Syrian infrastructure.

For its part, Russia's Kremlin manifested that Assad had expressed his willingness to Putin to start a political compromise to solve the Syrian issue, following a meeting with Russian defense and foreign ministers.

This time, the Russian President (known for excellent German skills) and the German Chancellor (a fluent Russian speaker) are set to meet face-to-face in the resort city of Sochi.

Putin told Assad that in the light of success of the Syrian army foreign forces should be withdrawn from the war-torn country.

Seattle OKs taxing companies like Amazon to aid the homeless
The tax approved Monday is much smaller than the $500-per-head proposal that had been under consideration for many weeks. Head taxes are extremely rare in the USA and the ones in place are a fraction of Seattle's proposal.

"The next task, of course, is the economic recovery and humanitarian aid for those people in a hard situation", Putin added. The UN has hosted several rounds of peace talks in Geneva that have made no progress towards ending the conflict. They will be sent to the United Nations, it is on the basis of the Geneva process.

"I have always said, and I repeat it again, that we have always wholeheartedly supported the political process, which should proceed in parallel with the war on terrorism".

Assad assured that the country returns to stability and it promotes the political process begun earlier. "However, we will continue to move steadily toward the peace process and for the sake of peace", Assad stressed.

He said the two also discussed economic cooperation and growing investments by Russian companies in Syria.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the meeting, which had not been announced in advance, took place on Thursday.
