Trump threatens Kim Jong-Un with same fate as Gaddafi

Gaddafi was deposed and killed after Libyans joined the 2011 Arab Spring protests, aided by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies who had encouraged him to give up his banned weapons of mass destruction under a 2003 deal.

"(The) world knows too well that our country is neither Libya nor Iraq which have met miserable fate", he said in apparent reference to the demises of Gaddafi and Iraq's former president Saddam Hussein.

"He would be there, he would be running his country, his country would be very rich", Trump said.

Holding South Korea completely responsible for the suspension of inter-Korean talks, he also blamed Seoul for expressing regret over Pyongyang's decision to suspend the talks, "far from thinking over the meaning of the step taken by North Korea and taking necessary follow-up measures".

In addition to threatening to pull out of the meeting with Trump, North Korea abruptly cancelled a planned meeting with South Korean officials over joint U.S. "Now that model would take place if we don't make a deal, most likely", Trump said. "We don't think that we are in a situation that can not be improved", Back Hye-ryun, a spokeswoman at the DP, said.

Bolton's original comments about a Libya model appeared to address the disarmament in 2003, while Trump on Thursday appeared to address Gaddafi's death in 2011, something North Korea has picked up on and responded to.

So far, 2018 has been nearly clear of nuclear brinkmanship between Trump and Kim, but Thursday should remind us that as long as North Korea has nuclear weapons, the U.S. stands a hair's breadth from war.

Pompeo describes what it was like meeting Kim Jong Un
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Pyongyang after his China trip, according to the Yomiuri. Xi's offer "may have led to Kim's judgement on denuclearization" when he met with U.S.

Trump, however, said that the USA was not using "the Libyan model" in its negotiations with North Korea, distancing himself from National Security Adviser John Bolton, who had explicitly mentioned "the Libya model of 2003-2004" as a basis for talks with Pyongyang.

On Tuesday, North Korea threatened to back out of the talks, spewed vitriolic anti-US rhetoric, and reasserted itself as a nuclear power.

The current uncertainty comes at a time when Trump's withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal has drawn criticism internationally and moving the USA embassy in Israel to Jerusalem has fuelled deadly violence on the Israel-Gaza border. -South Korean military exercise.

Their talks in the northeastern coastal city of Dalian comes as tension on the Korean Peninsula over North Korea's development of nuclear weapons eases ahead of what would be a historic meeting between Kim and US President Donald Trump, as soon as this month, according to the White House.

"All the confrontation rackets kicked up by them have had something in common with the nature of the conservative regime which had been engaged in inciting hostility and division in the past", said the North Korean official in charge of several rounds of inter-korean talks at Panmunjom.

The inflammatory comments came at a time when the June summit is in doubt. North Korea could also be trying to capitalize on an apparent gap in messaging between Bolton and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

North Korea's first vice minister of foreign affairs, Kim Kye-gwan, on Wednesday specifically criticised Mr Bolton's Libya comparison.
