Harvey Weinstein Prosecutors Eyeing Obscure Law in Investigation

Harvey Weinstein arrives at The Weinstein Company and Netflix Golden Globes afterparty in Beverly Hills Calif. Law enforcement officials say Weinstein is expected to surrender to authorities Friday morning to face criminal

"We got you, Harvey Weinstein, we got you", McGowan tweeted during Weinstein's arraignment.

Weinstein turned himself in to the New York Police Department and was charged with rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse, and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women.

He turned himself into a NY police station before being charged with first and third degree rape in 2013, seemingly in a Midtown Manhattan hotel, and a criminal sex act in the first degree in 2004.

"When the woman in the courtroom said he needed to lure women in, there was a quick look of shock from him". If convicted on the most serious charges, Weinstein could face between five and 25 years in prison.

The accusations, first reported a year ago by the New York Times and the New Yorker, gave rise to the #MeToo movement, in which hundreds of women have publicly accused powerful men in business, government and entertainment of sexual misconduct. He appeared pale, standing next to his lawyer Ben Brafman, while prosecutors described a bail arrangement. His bail was set at $1 million and he has to wear an electronic monitor.

Weinstein also surrendered his passport and agreed to stay within the states of NY and CT.

Weinstein, 66, stepped from a black SUV wearing a blazer and carrying books under his arm, and lumbered into a Manhattan police station before a crowd of news cameras.

The Manhattan district attorney's office decided not to charge him in the case. Weinstein's lawyer says he believes the movie mogul will ultimately be exonerated.

The Manhattan district attorney's office and NY police have investigated Harvey Weinstein for months, coming under growing pressure from the Time's Up movement to bring the disgraced producer to justice.

At home, Boston has been a completely different team out hustling Cleveland, Philadelphia and Milwaukee on both ends. It was the most he has scored in an elimination game and only three points shy of his playoff career high of 49.

"I have to admit I didn't think I would see the day that he would have handcuffs on him", McGowan told GMA's Amy Robach in a pre-recorded segment.

The night before on Thursday evening she posted about his arrest and said: 'I, and so many of Harvey Weinstein's survivors, had given up hope that our rapist would be held accountable by law.

Entertainment industry heavyweights have distanced themselves from Weinstein since the accusations became public.

She also says her "brave and attractive client has sacrificed her privacy and peace to come forward" and asks that she be left alone. He must wear an ankle bracelet and can only travel within the NY or CT.

Weinstein was sacked from his company and expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Producers Guild of America following detailed allegations of harassment and abuse published by The New York Times and The New Yorker in October. His attorney says Weinstein maintains that all sexual acts were "consensual".

However, they will know Mr Weinstein isn't going down without a fight.

More than 75 women have accused Weinstein of wrongdoing, and authorities in California and London are also investigating assault allegations. Music producer Phil Spector was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2009, but only after a mistrial on those charges two years earlier. In the retrial, the judge allowed five other accusers to tell similar stories of alleged abuse at his hands.

According to The New York Times, Weinstein has until Wednesday "to decide whether he plans to testify in front of the grand jury".

Palmer's new song, co-written and performed with Jasmine Power, imagines a sexual assault perpetrated by a powerful man in a hotel room, a clear allusion to allegations that Weinstein forced himself on women in hotels.
