Harvey Weinstein charged with rape

“We Got You” Harvey Weinstein Accuser Rose Mc Gowan Reacts To His Arrest

A law enforcement official says Harvey Weinstein will face criminal sex act and rape charges in a NY court.

In October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker reported that dozens of women had come forward accusing Hollywood film mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual abuse.

Women in Hollywood applauded on Thursday after Harvey Weinstein turned himself into authorities in NY after a months-long investigation into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

Mr Weinstein appeared pale and stood next to Mr Brafman while prosecutors described a bail agreement.

The case was then adjourned until 30 July. The office of Attorney Benjamin Brafman, who is representing Weinstein, said that he would not comment on reports of Weinstein's surrender. "This defendant used his position, money and power to lure young women into situations where he was able to violate them sexually", she said, causing Weinstein to raise his brows, nearly as though surprised to hear it.

A statement from the New York Police Department confirmed the charges and thanked "these fearless survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice".

In another case, involving a woman who has not been named, Weinstein faces charges that include first-degree rape.

Evans told The New Yorker magazine he forced her to perform oral sex during a daytime meeting in his office.

What are the official charges?

"In 1997, I was raped by Harvey Weinstein here at Cannes", Argento began during her presentation of the best actress award. "I would say it's just so big". Weinstein faced charges over two women in 2013 and 2004, respectively, according to Vance. If he wants to travel beyond NY or CT, he has to get approval from the judge.

They include TV hosts Matt Lauer and Charlie Rose, comedian Louis CK, Democratic Senator Al Franken, chef Mario Batali, casino magnate Steve Wynn and, most recently, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

"I can say this, the man who pinned me down had handcuffs on him today", she told NBC's Megyn Kelly in an interview shortly after the arrest.

Weinstein pleaded not guilty and paid $1 million dollars on bail.

In March, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo took the extraordinary step of ordering the State's attorney general to investigate whether Mr. Vance acted properly in 2015 when he decided not to prosecute Weinstein over a previous allegation of unwanted groping, made by an Italian model. "I think five years from now, a lot of these weeds will be taken out".

Boogie Nights actress Heather Graham, who has spoken of unsettling encounters with Weinstein in the early 2000s, wrote on Twitter that, instead of focussing on him, she would be celebrating powerful women. "It's whether you committed a criminal act, and Mr Weinstein vigorously denies that".
