The two leaders are expected to discuss possible denuclearisation efforts, peace and stabilty.

"The fact that we have been chosen as the site of the meeting - we did not ask for it, but we were asked and we agreed - says something about Singapore's relations with the parties, with America, with North Korea, also our standing in the worldwide community".

Despite the summit now being back on, that deal and others by countries that have been part of global nuclear deals - such as Ukraine after the fall of the Soviet Union, and Iran in 2015 - will also loom large over the discussions.

We support lasting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, however, we are pessimistic towards American treatment and behavior in global field, Ghasemi noted.

In the lead up to the summit, North Korea rejected any unilateral nuclear disarmament, and KCNA's reference to denuclearisation of the peninsula has historically meant that Pyongyang wants the United States to remove its "nuclear umbrella" protecting South Korea and Japan.

The Trump administration seeks the complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantling of the North's nuclear weapons program. They believe Kim's latest engagement is aimed at getting the United States to ease the crippling sanctions that have squeezed the impoverished country.

North Korea will probably agree to some non-binding reference to the aspiration of denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, as happened with the 27 April North Korea-South Korea summit joint statement.

"We will not be surprised by any scenario", said the official. Pompeo, who has twice met Kim, insisted Monday that Trump is fully prepared for his meeting with the North Korean leader.

Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan (Bal-a-krish-nan) revealed Kim went to the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

Kim arrived in Singapore on Sunday to participate in the summit scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the exclusive Capella Hotel in Sentosa Island, reports The Straits Times.

Putin invites Kim to Russian Federation , praises Trump summit
Trump, on the other hand, has promised loudly and repeatedly that this process will end with North Korea's disarmament. He said to the North Korean leader in televised footage: "Come to Russian Federation ".

North Korea, though, has shown little appetite for surrendering nuclear weapons it considers vital to the survival of Kim's dynastic rule.

Totalitarian North Korea's governing ideology of "Juche", which champions self-sufficiency, has brought little but decades of economic stagnation, widespread poverty and, at times, starvation.

Pompeo said the negotiations were moving "quite rapidly" and that he anticipated the two sides to "come to a logical conclusion even more quickly than we anticipated". He declined, however, to reveal any details of the preliminary discussions being held Monday between USA and North Korean officials.

"The fact that the leaders of North Korea and the US arrived in Singapore yesterday marks the official beginning of the summit and that is highly significant". Following the initial greeting, President Trump and Chairman Kim will participate in a one-on-one meeting, with translators only, an expanded bilateral meeting, and a working lunch. Just a few hours after his arrival, Kim met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (left) at the Istana presidential palace.

According to the South Korean news website Chosun, Kim arrived in Singapore with his bullet-proof limousine and a portable toilet, a measure which is created to prevent anyone analyzing his stools.

There was also no sign of his sister, Kim Yo Jong, who has accompanied him to Singapore. Singapore's minister for foreign affairs tweeted a photo of Trump and a cake adorned with one candle.

According to National Security Council spokesman Robert Palladino, President Trump intends to meet one on one with Kim.

USA secretary of state Mike Pompeo told reporters that ongoing talks between the two countries are advancing well, but stressed the meeting would be the beginning of a process that would "set the conditions for future talks".

Bolton's hardline rhetoric last month infuriated North Korea and almost derailed the summit.
