National Weather Service confirms 2 Pennsylvania tornadoes

The Latest Second tornado confirmed in Pennsylvania

The Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department posted on Facebook that there were "multiple collapsed/damaged buildings" in the area of Mundy Street, and asked drivers to avoid the area.

"I never seen anything like this in my life", township Mayor Carl Kuren said. Storefronts are barely recognizable and parts of roofing, concrete blocks and other debris were scattered throughout the parking lot of this business community.

Newswatch 16 got a tour inside Wilkes-Barre Township Commons, a shopping area that's been shredded by 130-mile hour winds.

The National Weather Service will be surveying damage there as well.

"We're very fortunate that it's only six people that were injured and they were all minor injuries", said Wilkes-Barre Police Chief Ron Smith.

Trump Kim summit: North Korea sets out its Singapore agenda
Regarding the joint exercises, Kang only said at the press conference, "This is an issue that involves the [South] Korea-U.S. alliance".

Luzerne County Manager Dave Pedri described the damage as "staggering", noting that the destruction occurred in the heart of one of the region's premier shopping districts, which will be a blow to the local economy.

Further north in Bradford County emergency responders reported damage to homes and businesses in Granville and Franklin Townships. "That's a concern. But we are lucky no one was seriously hurt", Pedri said.

The tornado in Wilkes-Barre Township was rated an EF-2 on the enhanced Fujita scale and had an estimated maximum wind speed of 130 miles per hour. As of early Thursday afternoon, their live outage map showed that about 1,000 customers around Wilkes-Barre were without power.

PPL Electric Utilities crews were also on scene removing debris from power lines and working on downed lines. Since 1888, there have been 175 tornadoes in Pennsylvania recorded in June, according to WPMT.

The National Weather Service was also assessing the scene Thursday in an effort to determine if a tornado did in fact touch down, as officials at the scene said they suspected.
