New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern welcomes newborn daughter 'to our village'

New Zealand's Prime Minister arrives at hospital to give birth. She's the first pregnant world leader since 1990

Ardern announced she was pregnant with her first child in January, just three months after entering the prime minister's office.

An instagram of the baby captioned "Welcome to our village wee one", had reached 10,000 likes after just a few minutes.

Ms Ardern said there would be little disruption during her time off as she would stay in regular contact with Mr Peters and be involved in major decisions.

Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford pose with their newborn daughter at the Auckland City Hospital, Thursday, June 21, 2018, in Auckland, New Zealand.

She leads a political party that spearheaded an increase in paid parental leave, but New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will only take six weeks off after she gave birth to her first child.

The news of the birth of Jacinda Ardern and Clarke Gayford's baby has made news around the world.

That may include a disciplinary matter - all Cabinet ministers serve at the pleasure of the Prime Minister regardless of the party they're with.

Griezmann snubs Barca to stay at Atletico
Griezmann, who signed a new deal at the start of the season, had been linked with the likes of Manchester United and FC Barcelona .

She was the first pregnant world leader in almost 30 years. Once she became prime minister, she put those plans on hold. He wished both Ardern and partner Clarke Gayford on the birth of their baby.

She plans to take six weeks off work.

Then, Mr Gayford will take care of the baby and will travel with Ms Ardern between their Auckland home and the capital, Wellington, as well as on global engagements.

Ardern is NZ Labour's youngest ever leader and the country's youngest PM since 1856.

On the campaign trail, Ardern, 37, had pushed back against questions about whether she meant to start a family, saying pregnancy should not affect a woman's career opportunities.

At the conference, Ardern was asked how choosing a baby name was going and she responded "terribly" before asking the gathered media for suggestions.

"Like the rest of the country we welcome the news of the birth of a healthy baby and are naturally delighted for the new parents". Opposition leaders said that "the country would be leaderless while she was hospitalized", The New York Times reported at the time.
