FIBA to open disciplinary proceedings after Gilas-Boomers brawl

Australia held a comfortable 79-48 lead when a pair of rough fouls, one from Philippines player Roger Pogoy on Chris Goulding followed by a retaliation from teammate Daniel Kickert, saw the game erupt into madness.

In the wake of the brawl between Gilas Pilipinas and the Australia Boomers in their second FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers encounter on Monday, FIBA announced that it will now be opening disciplinary proceedings over the incident.

Thirteen players were ejected, and the Philippines weren't able to finish the game with a full lineup as a result.

Basketball Australia chief executive Anthony Moore expressed his disappointment following the match played in front of more than 22,000 fans at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Maker, Kickert, Christopher Goulding and Nathan Sobey were ejected for Australia. "We are hosting this game, and this is basketball".

After toppling a pile, Maker was punched in the back of the head by Terrence Bill Romeo of the Philippines. "We are extremely disappointed with what happened and our role in it".

CSU's Seehofer offers to stand down over border bans
Mrs Merkel has rejected that approach, saying Germany needs to address migration more broadly to preserve European Union unity. Pressure from the right is especially acute for the CSU as it faces October regional elections in Bavaria.

Australia's Thon Maker appeared to throw flying knees during the brawl. "The Philippine basketball federation and the players are our friends and neighbors, but also a very tough opponent that we respect very much".

Once referees regained control over the chaos, a tape of the brawl was reviewed and a total of 13 players were ejected from the game, nine of which were from the Philippines.

Scheduled post-match press conferences for both teams were cancelled in the aftermath of the incident.

Commentator Shane Heal said the call to continue the game was "laughable".

"No disrespect was intended and the team has since apologized for the error in judgment to Philippines Basketball, the fans, and FIBA", the statement closed.

The Australian national team issued an apology for its behavior soon after the game.
