Boys may have to dive from cave despite peril, Thai official says

Soldiers hold an evacuation drill on Saturday near the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Mae Sai Chiang Rai province

"Diving is not easy". "Those who have never done it will find it hard because there are narrow passages in the cave". "If something happens midway, it could be life-threatening".

A video of the encounter was posted on Facebook by the Thai Navy SEALs, which shows the boys and their interactions with the divers.

A Thai provincial governor says the 13 people who had been missing for more than a week have all had an "informal" medical evaluation inside the cave and most are in stable condition and none are in critical condition. "But no one is in red condition".

Sky News' Lisa Holland, who is at the scene, said: "We have been told by a teacher at a school where half of the boys go to (that) the boys have been found and that they are alive but they are very weak".

Water levels in the cave are expected to rise as the summer goes on, as Thailand's rainy season usually lasts from May until October.

"I am so glad that I can not think of anything else", an uncle of a 13-year-old football player of Mu Pa Academy Mae Sai said.

"I'm happy they found them and they were all safe", said Pichai Chairatthanawanit of Wakefield. Many of them had been putting fruit and sweet treats near the cave each day as an offering to spirits they believe protect the cave.

"If that's what the divers have faced and they have been trying to reach them for 10 days, it's going to be very, very hard to get those boys out, particularly of course because they are so weak". Local and worldwide rescuers, including a team of Thai navy divers and cave experts, had spent days trying to locate the team, but muddy waters complicated efforts and blocked access to the chambers of the cave complex.

Several pumping machines are draining an estimated 1.6 million liters of water from the cave network every hour, Thai Military Major General Bancha Duriyapan told CNN.

FIBA to open disciplinary proceedings after Gilas-Boomers brawl
Thirteen players were ejected, and the Philippines weren't able to finish the game with a full lineup as a result. Scheduled post-match press conferences for both teams were cancelled in the aftermath of the incident .

In the 5-minute navy video, the boys were seen wearing their soccer uniforms and were calm, curious and polite. They are also keen to get some food. "Brilliant", one of the British rescuers responded as the boys confirmed that all 13 team members were present and accounted for, reports CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy. "Monday. You have been here - 10 days".

"If the doctors say their physical condition is strong enough to be moved, they will take them out from the cave", he continued. "Yesterday, unofficially, we assessed that most are in the green category", said Narongsak.

The diver replies "I know, I understand.no, not today".

Pipob also said some Thai media were to blame, adding that instead of focusing on heavy criticism against the deputy police chief's work, it should have educated the public by providing information about the cave: from its ecosystem and dangers to survival and prevention guides.

"We will bring food to them and a doctor who can dive".

According to Anmar Mirza, national coordinator of the National Cave Rescue Commission in the U.S. and editor of the book Manual of U.S. Cave Rescue Technique, the main decision is now whether to try to evacuate the boys or to supply them in place.

"Trying to take non-divers through a cave is one of the most risky situations possible, even if the dives are relatively easy", he said.

Narongsak said they located the missing boys about 300-400m past a section of the cave that was on higher ground and was thought to be where the team members and their coach may have taken shelter.

Joining the British are other cave experts from around the world and teams from the US, Australia, China and elsewhere.
