Netflix is testing out a new 'ultra' subscription tier

Netflix is becoming increasingly valuable, so it is perhaps not surprising to see the video-streaming companies testing new pricing tiers that could see users ponying up more cash for very high-quality services.

A selection of users in Italy, Germany and other European countries are seeing the new Ultra plan.

Tutto Android has obtained leaked Netflix promotional material that suggests the Netflix Premium tier is changing.

The Ultra plan may affect some aspects of the current Premium plan, according to PhoneArena. The existing plans are: Basic (€7.99), Standard (€10.99) and Premium (€13.99). If Netflix applies the new Ultra plan, Premium subscribers might be forced to upgrade if they want to continue having a maximum of 4 simultaneous streams.

If you followed the news out of CES closely this year, you probably heard the word HDR tossed around a lot. While that is one explanation, it can also be the case that Netflix uses A-B tests and selected different prices for the customer based on that. Basic gives you access to SD resolution, Standard gives you access to HD resolution, and Premium covers 4K resolution and HDR. That's because it removes high dynamic range support from Premium and charges more per month for HDR and Dolby Vision video under a new Ultra tier.

Belgium's Eden Hazard: Mass rotation could disrupt rhythm
Belgium coach Roberto Martinez said Nishino's negative tactics against Poland showed he had a ruthless edge. You really can't beat good manners.

She said: "We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time".

However, Netflix (nflx) told the tech publication that the test would be limited to some users rather than all, and that the company may not end up offering the tiers that it's testing.

However, while the pricing looks to be going up, that doesn't look like it'll be bringing new features with it.

"But if you do that, you can get people to pay a little bit more because then we're able to invest more and further improve".
