U.S. service member killed in apparent insider attack in Afghanistan

Pompeo left Afghanistan for the United Arab Emirates, where he will meet Abu Dhabi's powerful crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a staunch US ally, amid his country's war in Yemen.

Their statement reportedly said that four foreign soldiers had been killed and three wounded at the Tarinkot airport.

The last insider attack that resulted in a US casualty occurred in June 2017, according to NATO Resolute Support officials.

The Taliban have also released a statement, saying an Afghan soldier opened fire on U.S. soldiers in Uruzgan. "That is deeply connected to the President Trump's strategy".

Boys may have to dive from cave despite peril, Thai official says
Joining the British are other cave experts from around the world and teams from the US, Australia , China and elsewhere. In the 5-minute navy video, the boys were seen wearing their soccer uniforms and were calm, curious and polite.

One US service member was killed and two others wounded in an apparent insider attack in southern Afghanistan, the NATO-led Resolute Support mission said on Saturday. No other details of the attack were available.

Currently, there are about 14,000 USA troops in Afghanistan, providing the main component of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation mission there to support and train local forces.

"And right now, you know, yes, green on blue could be a threat, but we have not had a single incident", Jackson said, using a military term for insider attacks. It was claimed by the Taliban.

Radio Free Europe reported that Pompeo's visit to Afghanistan "coincides with what could be a final operation to clear fighters from the IS group and other insurgents in a remote district in the eastern Nangarhar Province". Some of the US forces are involved in counterterrorism operations, particularly against the Islamic State jihadist group. As Pompeo's remarks indicated, the Taliban is an indigenous problem for Kabul to resolve with American support, all the more so if Pakistan truly gets serious about controlling its border region.
