N. Korea, US hold talks on war dead repatriation

Kim Jong Un inspects a potato flour factory

Pompeo travelled to Pyongyang for two days last week in a bid to flesh out denuclearization commitments made during last month's historic summit.

Pompeo, Trump's point person for all things North Korea, conceded Washington and Pyongyang "still have a long ways to go".

Friday's ceremony in Seoul was attended by US Forces Korea Commander Vincent Brooks; South Korea's defense minister, Song Young-moo; and relatives of South Korean soldier Yun Gyeong-hyeok, who received his remains. Following their absence at the scheduled meeting, anonymous sources tell both news outlets that Pyongyang reached out requesting that at least one USA general be part of the conversation about the remains.

In December, the UN Security Council limited such exports to North Korea to 500,000 barrels a year.

USA and North Korean officials met at the border between the two Koreas on Sunday to discuss the return of remains of American soldiers killed in the 1950-53 Korean War, according to a media report.

The English translation of the four-paragraph document was tweeted by Mr Trump on Thursday.

Kim expresses "invariable trust and confidence" in the president and wishes that "epochal progress" in promoting relations will "bring our next meeting forward".

In the letter, Kim said the summit was the "start of a meaningful journey". "Great progress being made", Trump said in a Tweet. He did not elaborate.

Giuliani: No Cohen Concerns 'As Long As He Tells The Truth'
Cohen also defended the Mueller investigation as a whole, saying, "I respect our nation's intelligence agencies'". Bolduan asked if there's any signal that Cohen is now cooperating with prosecutors.

Local cable channel "Channel A" reported on Sunday that South Korea's top nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon made the offer during his visit to the United States on Wednesday, but the offer was turned down.

North Korea had continued its nuclear and missile tests and stepped up its militant rhetoric through 2016 and 2017, and Kim and United States President Donald Trump had engaged in a spate of apocalyptic threats, taunts and name-calling just weeks before the Olympics.

But North Korea's take on the matter was entirely opposite as it alleged that the future of the peace process was being put into trouble by the US's "unilateral and gangster-like" demands aiming for Pyongyang's nuclear disarmament.

It was unclear whether the United States had been deliberately stood up because Pompeo said last week, while departing Pyongyang, that the date of the meeting could be moved by a day or two.

What about the planned repatriation meeting?

Sunday's talks began around 10 a.m.at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom. Maj.

North and South Korea will field joint teams in the men's and women's doubles as well as the mixed doubles in the tournament to be held in the South's city of Daejeon from Tuesday to Sunday, Yonhap news agency said.
