Supreme Court pick wins over holdout Republican, meets Democrat

2020 Dem Hopeful Look People Who Support Kavanaugh for SCOTUS Are 'Complicit in Evil'

President Donald Trump's US Supreme Court nominee finally met with a Democrat on Monday, as Senator Joe Manchin bucked his party and welcomed Brett Kavanaugh on Capitol Hill.

In a series of tweets Monday morning, Kentucky Sen. "I am very concerned about his position on privacy and the Fourth Amendment", Paul told Politico's Burgess Everett in an interview.

Barrasso said that he was thoroughly impressed with Kavanaugh, and that the meeting was very productive. As one of the most libertarian-leaning Republican senators, Paul disagreed with Kavanaugh's support for warrantless collection of communications metadata by the USA government in the interest of national security.

Paul's initial concerns over Kavanaugh involved the judge's record on privacy.

- Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) July 30, 2018In reviewing his record on other privacy cases like Jones, and through my conversation with him, I have hope that in light of the new precedent in Carpenter v. He said he was confident Kavanaugh would be more open to constitutional Fourth Amendment protections involving digital records and property.

Fifty-one senators have to vote in favor of confirming Kavanaugh for him to serve on the bench, but the threshold could be 50 senators if Arizona Sen. "This is a big deal".

House Freedom Caucus Leaders Call For Rosenstein Impeachment
Donald Trump nominated him to serve as Deputy Attorney General for the United States Department of Justice on February 1, 2017. Meadows downplayed any disagreement with the speaker on the matter, saying he had spoken to the speaker on Thursday morning.

'I believe he will carefully adhere to the Constitution and will take his job to protect individual liberty seriously, ' Paul said.

Now that Paul backed Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, there are few Republican senators who have yet to state if they will vote to confirm Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh, who has already met with 39 Republican senators, held a two-hour meeting with Manchin on Monday.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee tasked with holding hearings on Kavanaugh's nomination, said this week that Democrats' "bloated demands are an obvious attempt to obstruct the confirmation process".

After Manchin said he would talk with Kavanaugh, another red-state Democrat, Sen. Two Republicans who support abortion rights - Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska - say they have yet to decide how they'll vote. Should Kavanaugh be appointed, the court would retain its 5-4 conservative majority, but would shift slightly further to the right, as outgoing Justice Anthony Kennedy sometimes sided with his liberal colleagues on social issues like abortion and gay rights.
