An explosion of drive-by shootings erupted on Chicago's South and West sides this weekend. Three of the victims were teenagers, with the youngest being just 13 years old.

In one incident, around 12:40 a.m. Sunday, several gunmen opened fire on a group of people standing in the courtyard of a building, wounding eight people, police said. The victim's ages range from 14 to 24-years-old. "Somebody knows who did it", said Johnson, his voice rising.

"But at the same time, every societal ill just simply can't be placed at the doorstep of the police department expecting to handle it", Johnson said. "Where is the accountability for them?"

Of the Chicago City Council's 50 aldermen, 48 are Democrats, one is Republican, and one is Independent. "They get a pass from everybody, and they shouldn't", he said.

"These shootings are not random, they're fueled by gang conflicts. This is a small subset of individuals who think they can play by their own rules because they continue to get a slap on the wrist when we arrest them", Johnson said. We are all supposed to be on the same side.

Johnson noted that homicides in the city are down by around 20 percent from previous year.

As for Mayor Emanuel, Ford said, "He must take away the thought that Chicago is a Trump-free zone because taxpayers deserve to have the president come in bring resources to the community".

"I promise this city, we won't be defeated", Waller said. "If they shoot you, they don't even run", one man tells the Chicago Tribune. "Look, take some of those dollars and put them into the community to create the jobs, the contract, and you'll see that violence go down". CPD also says it has implemented a data-driven policing strategy that helps police predict crime before it happens so they can put officers in the right places at the right time.

It is said that Note 9 will come with an improved cooling system and S Pen and apparently an attention to the gaming world. The one design change is a reworked fingerprint reader placement, which was panned a year ago for being too hard to reach.

"We have a heavy heart", Emanuel said at a news conference today. "There's something more at stake, and all of us know that this is not Chicago, what we saw".

But the weekend's grim violence underscored that while the city has witnessed a positive trend, several neighborhoods remain volatile.

Chicago Police officers and detectives investigate a shooting where multiple people were shot on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois.

In a press conference Sunday afternoon, Police Chief Fred Waller said some of the shootings were targeted attacks resulting from gang violence in the area.

The city has recorded more than 300 murders so far this year, which is more than any other city across the nation.

Although investigations were just getting underway, Waller said numerous shootings appeared to be targeted attacks.

Earlier this month, the Chicago Tribune reported that there had been 532 fewer shootings this year compared to 2017.

Johnson said that both murders and shootings are down on the year, but said this weekend showed there was still a lot to do.
