Study finds glyphosate in most oat food products

Earlier this week, an environmental research and advocacy group found traces of herbicide in Cheerios, Quaker Oats and a number of other breakfast foods, according to The New York Times.

Monsanto, however, says it plans to appeal the court's decision and the verdict "does not change the fact that more than 800 scientific studies and reviews - and conclusions by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. National Institutes of Health and regulatory authorities around the world - support the fact that glyphosate does not cause cancer, and did not cause Mr. Johnson's cancer".

An activist group said that glyphosate has been found in Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and Quaker Old Fashioned Oats, Fox Business reported.

Glyphosate was recently in the news when a San Francisco jury awarded a groundskeeper a $289 million settlement, ruling that his cancer was the result of years of using RoundUp.

"When you're dealing with something like that, a 1-in-a-million increased risk of cancer, I would say that isn't a significant level to be particularly concerned about", Michael Davoren, who studies molecular toxicology at UCLA and was not involved in the report, told WebMD.

He attributes his condition to the company's proprietary herbicide glyphosate he used.

The Environmental Working Group says it tested more than a dozen brands sold in the U.S.

And Mourinho also disagreed with Woodward over the future of Anthony Martial, with the United manager happy for the French forward to be sold.

The herbicide was also found in smaller concentrations in five samples of organic oat products.

Monsanto has defended the product, saying that glyphosate does not cause cancer and is safe for human use.

The EWG's child-protective benchmark is 160 parts per billion. In December the agency issued a "deeply flawed" analysis, one which relied heavily on industry studies, which claimedthat glyphosate is not harmful for humans. California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment is adding to its list of chemicals known to cause cancer. Thirty-one out of 45 tested products had levels higher than what some scientists consider safe for children.

In 2017, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency found traces of the chemical in almost 30 per cent of the 3,200 food samples it tested.

In April, internal emails obtained from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) showed that scientists have found glyphosate on a wide range of commonly consumed food, to the point that they were finding it hard to identify a food without the chemical on it. Many of these products nonetheless did show some glyphosate content, which Tenkin said was likely due to the chemical making its way to organic crops from other fields or cross-contamination at processing facilities.

"Our products are safe and without question they meet regulatory safety levels". Farmers will spray the weed-killing chemical on crops, such as wheat, oats and lentils, before harvest. 31 of these contained dangerously high levels of the chemical. What's even shocking is that more than 200 million pounds of glyphosate are sprayed on crops in the U.S. each year. "Any levels of glyphosate that may remain are significantly below any limits and well within compliance of the safety standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the European Commission as safe for human consumption".
