A 10-term Democratic congressman has conceded defeat to a Boston city councillor who is now poised to become Massachusetts' first black congresswoman in a race with parallels to a NY upset that rattled the party in June.

Keating will take on Republican Peter Tedeschi in November.

Brianna Wu is a co-founder of the video game company Giant Spacekat.

Dorchester resident Carla Monteiro, 35, voted for Pressley because, she said, she felt a strong connection to her history, and felt Pressley had a record of making change.

The 63-year-old Lynch is a former union ironworker and grew up in South Boston.

The 44-year-old's upset over a 10-term incumbent congressman underscores the shift underway in a Democratic Party whose base is seeking younger, more diverse candidates who embrace progressive policies. In polls leading up to Tuesday, Capuano led by double-digits.

Massachusetts' last Democratic primary upset came in 2014, when Seth Moulton defeated Rep. John Tierney in the state's 6th Congressional District.

The Chicago-raised activist faces no Republican rival for the district that includes most of liberal Boston and its neighboring cities, leaving her free to focus on the Republican president.

Pressley is likely to become the first black woman elected to Congress from MA in November, since there are no Republican candidates in the race. Pressley has drawn comparisons to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Pressley backs Medicare-for-all, the single-payer healthcare proposal, which helped her garner backing from Our Revolution, the offshoot of Vermont Sen. She ousted 10-term New York Rep. Joe Crowley in a Democratic primary in June. "Ayanna Pressley is going to be a good congresswoman", he said. Still, Pressley joins Ocasio-Cortez in New York, Stacey Abrams in Georgia and Andrew Gillum in Florida in the ranks of progressive, non-white politicians who represent demographic change and perspective in the Democratic Party.

"We will vote the same way, but I will lead differently", she said in a recent debate.

Pressley is the first woman of color ever to serve on Boston's City Council, and is set to break another barrier, becoming the first woman of color to serve in its congressional delegation.
