Senior official says there are 'dozens' of others working against Trump

Grin Ivanka apparently unfazed by the reports of a fight between her and Bannon flashed a wide smile as she walked from her house to the Secret Service SUV waiting for her

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders points to a reporter to take a question as she speaks during the daily press briefing at the White House, Monday, July 23, 2018, in Washington.

"The Woodward book is a Joke", the USA leader said Monday about investigative journalist Bob Woodward's highly critical look at Trump's chaotic 20-month presidency, "Fear: Trump in the White House", that is being published Tuesday.

"It's frankly, I think, sad and pathetic that a gutless, anonymous source could receive so much attention from the media and I think that the American people would be much better served if we actually spent some time talking about some of the really important things that are facing our country and the things that this administration is the doing to help fix them", she said.

She also doubled down on Trump's demand for the Justice Department to investigate the anonymous writer, saying that "they are attempting to undermine the executive branch".

Sanders denied the White House is conducting its own investigation to uncover the source behind the article.

Woodward's book has stayed in the spotlight since last Tuesday, when the first excerpts were published.

Trump officials have rushed to distance themselves from the op-ed and from Woodward's book, both of which depict a White House mired in dysfunction, with aides disparaging the Republican president and working to prevent him from making disastrous decisions.

Trump's economic adviser Gary Cohn removed papers from the president's desk to stop him from withdrawing from KORUS, according to Woodward's reporting. Instead, Sanders said just the notion the unidentified official may be involved in national security matters was grounds enough to launch a probe.

CBS’s Handling of Les Moonves Accusations Hampered by Battle for Control
Phyllis Golden-Gottlieb, 82, is among the women whose fresh claims against Moonves led to his resignation as CEO of CBS on Sunday. As part of the exit agreement, both CBS and Moonves will donate $20 million to organizations that support the #MeToo movement.

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, in turn, is quoted as saying the president has the mental capacity of a "fifth or sixth grader", while current chief of staff John Kelly is quoted as calling Trump "an idiot".

It would not surprise me if President Trump himself wrote the op-ed just to shine the light on someone else and blame the "fake news" and blame the "deep state".

Woodward, asked on Monday on NBC's "Today" show about their denials, said, "They are not telling the truth".

"A number of people came out and said that Woodward never reached out to corroborate statements attributed to them, which seems incredibly reckless for a book to make such outrageous claims, to not even take the time to get a 10-dollar fact checker to call around and verify some of these quotes happened", Sanders said.

A different journalist asked if the White House would give a list of everything in the book that they thought were inaccurate, to which Sanders replied, "I think that would be a complete and utter waste of our time, so no".

Quoting his old editor and mentor Ben Bradlee, Woodward said "the truth emerges".

Sanders fired back: "I think we would say that it's about as ridiculous as most of Bob Woodward's book".
