Australians warned to cut strawberries after sewing needles found in fruit

The needle found in one strawberry last weekend

The strawberries were bought in Tweed Heads in NSW and Queensland's Redbank Plains and Everton Park, but it is unclear which of the farms sent the strawberries.

These brands are believed to be sold in stores in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory.

Queensland's Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young has requested retailers withdraw all Donnybrook strawberries through a trade level recall.

Angela Stevenson warned friends that she had cut open a punnet of Berry Obsession strawberries when she found two needles embedded in the fruit.

"While no other brands of strawberries have been implicated, if consumers are concerned, they should consider chopping them up before consumption".

He said police are "comfortable" that the issue with the "Berry Obsession" and "Berrylicious" brands had now been resolved, having been taken off the market.

NSW Police have added to Queensland Police's warning over the sabotaged fruit.

Police are urging anyone who locates strawberries containing the needles to contact Policelink for further advice on 131 444.

It comes after NSW mother Chantal Faugeras posted to Facebook images of strawberries she says she bought from a Coles supermarket on the state's mid-north coast on Tuesday.

She had already sent her nine-year-old to school with uncut strawberries, but when cutting more strawberries for her 12-month-old at home, she found a needle.

White House says Manafort plea is 'totally unrelated' to Trump's 'victorious' campaign
Another approach would be for him to plead guilty without cooperating in hopes of a presidential pardon . On Friday morning, however, that refusal came to an abrupt end.

"Just cut them up, have a look, it's not going to destroy it", he said.

Police launched an investigation on Sunday after a Queensland man reported swallowing a contaminated berry.

In Victoria, contact your local police station via phone or in person to report non-emergency crime incidents.

"Farmers are really nervous about it, obviously, and devastated something as bad as this would happen to the industry", Ms Rowling said.

The suspected copycat incident, reported at a supermarket in Gatton, involves the discovery of a thin metal object in a punnet of strawberries.

The Queensland Strawberry Growers Association said it appears the punnets of strawberries were interfered with between the time they were packed and the time they were purchased.

It's unclear if Ms Faugeras' discovery is related to the earlier incidents or a potential copycat.

In a statement released by Queensland Strawberry Growers Association on Wednesday, it was confirmed the company had suspicions a certain ex-employee had inserted the needles into the strawberries which were found over the last week. The Warmuran farm which supplied the berries under the brand names Berry Obsession and Berry Licious, was inspected by Queensland police and Australian Border Force officers on Thursday.

It's feared six separate brands of brands of strawberries have been contaminated with needles.
