Federal Bureau of Investigation can question 'anybody' about Kavanaugh

39;Protestors' Who Confronted Flake Over Kavanaugh Vote May Have Ulterior Motives

- President Donald Trump said Monday he wants the FBI to do a "comprehensive" investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Brett Kavanaugh.

Separately, the Senate Judiciary Committee made public late on Sunday a previously unreleased interview with Kavanaugh from September 26, before a public hearing with Ford, in which he denied all the allegations against him and committee Democrats declined to ask questions, saying they felt the FBI should investigate the allegations. The FBI probe was launched after Republican Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona announced he would not support Kavanaugh's confirmation without a new investigation into the allegations. That means if all the Democrats vote against Kavanaugh, Trump could not afford to have more than one Republican oppose his nominee, with Vice President Mike Pence casting a tie-breaking vote.

An attorney for Ms Keyser reaffirmed her previous statement that she does not know Kavanaugh and has no recollection of ever being at a gathering or party where he was present, the Senate Judiciary Committee said in a statement. "We have to allow them to go ahead".

Mr Judge's testimony is considered key to the investigation, as Professor Christine Blasey Ford says he was in the room when Brett Kavanaugh allegedly assaulted her at a house in 1982. "But about half of voters say Judge Brett Kavanaugh is the target of a smear campaign", said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the QU poll. Mr Trump said, mentioning a term he has used in the past to denigrate Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russia's role in the 2016 United States presidential election.

"I do not think that a reasonable prosecutor would bring this case based on the evidence before the committee".

The only stipulation from the White House was that the FBI conclude its investigation within a week.

Sen. Susan Collins said Sunday she is confident in the investigation and "that the FBI will follow up on any leads that result from the interviews".

Judge has written several books, including one titled "Wasted: Tales of a Gen X Drunk", and another titled "God and Man at Georgetown Prep: How I Became a Catholic Despite 20 Years of Catholic Schooling".

FBI Spoke With Ramirez on Sunday As Part Of Kavanaugh Probe
Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) was the first to make that demand shortly before he voted to advance Kavanaugh's nomination to the Senate.

At the hearing last week, Durbin said Kavanaugh "can't have it both ways" when he says he welcomes investigations but hasn't endorsed an FBI probe. "If the scope doesn't include my client and the others who have accused Mr. Kavanaugh, how can it be a credible investigation?" One example - Ford told the Senate Judiciary Committee that she saw Judge at a Safeway where he was working "six to eight weeks" after the alleged assault.

His desire to talk about compromise and bridging divides certainly had more resonance after Flake acted Friday to slow down (even for a week) the confirmation of Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Graham famously slammed Democrats last week during Kavanaugh's testimony on his sexual assault allegations.

Officials insisted that they were not "micromanaging" the new one-week review of Kavanaugh's background and insisted that Republican senators were dictating the inquiry's scope.

It's not now clear whether the Republican leadership has secured enough votes to ensure Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Another is an unnamed Yale classmate who wanted to corroborate Deborah Ramirez's accusation that Kavanaugh had exposed himself to her at a college party. Mr Trump's fellow Republicans control the Senate by a narrow 51-49 margin. Many see her as the most likely Republican to flip and vote against Kavanaugh.

Swetnick's attorney, Michael Avenatti, said Saturday that his client had not been contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation but was willing to cooperate with investigators.
