Embattled Trump court nominee drops Harvard teaching position

Harvard Law School says Brett Kavanaugh won’t return to teach course: reports

They forced the White House to open a supplemental background investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against the judge.

Brett Kavanaugh, the embattled Supreme Court nominee who's been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct, will not return to teach at Harvard Law School this coming January, the university's newspaper reported Monday.

In a statement on Sunday, a Yale classmate of Mr Kavanaugh said he was "deeply troubled by what has been a blatant mischaracterisation by Brett himself of his drinking at Yale". John Kennedy, who sits on the judiciary committee, said that Swetnick's allegations were not included in the agreement reached to authorize an FBI investigation last week. (According to the report, Kavanaguh "did not want to say if he threw the ice or not.") UB40 have now responded to the news saying the band, like most people, wants nothing to do with this Brett Kavanaugh mess.

Three moderate Republicans have yet to say if they will back Kavanaugh and they will likely be the key votes when the Senate finally decides.

But the undecided senators - Flake, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of ME, all Republicans; and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, both Democrats - are keeping an open mind.

At the request of senators, President Donald Trump ordered the FBI to conduct a background investigation this week into the sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh denies that as well.

Kavanaugh struck an angry and defiant tone at the hearing.

Mr Ludington told reporters: "I can unequivocally say that in denying the possibility that he ever blacked out from drinking and in downplaying the degree and frequency of his drinking, Brett has not told the truth". She argued that senators need more time to evaluate the FBI's findings. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, a member of the Judiciary Committee, seized on those comments Monday as she laced into Kavanaugh in a speech on the Senate floor.

The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee said she thought a Friday vote on Kavanaugh would not give senators enough time to evaluate the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe.

Harvard Law School says Brett Kavanaugh won’t return to teach course: reports

Though the FBI takes its orders from Trump, he said he's being "guided" by senators on the investigation's scope.

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, has targeted Friday for a vote on Kavanaugh from the full legislative body, a timeframe Democratic Sen.

Reacting to Trump's claim that senators need to provide him guidance on who should be interviewed as part of the investigation, Avenatti said that "Trump is talking out of both sides of his mouth".

The fight over Kavanaugh's nomination to a lifetime job on the top US court comes against the backdrop of the #MeToo movement fighting sexual harassment and assault that has toppled a succession of powerful men.

"In addition to the substance of these allegations, Judge Kavanaugh's comportment and testimony during the appointment process have cast further doubt on his fitness to serve on the Supreme Court", said the alumni letter.

In a letter addressed to FBI Director Chris Wray and the general counsel Dana Boente, Ford's attorneys lay out the steps they took to offer Ford's cooperation, which they said began with a Friday night conversation with Boente. To that, Trump said it is not "acceptable" to lie to Congress.

Trump, who was himself accused during the 2016 presidential race of sexual misconduct with numerous women, tried to link the allegations against Kavanaugh to what he said was a broader problem.

"The issues of credibility and temperament are not something that happened 30 years ago; they're about Judge Kavanaugh today and how he is as a 53-year-old", Minority Leader Sen. A third claim from Swetnick accuses Kavanaugh of excessive drinking and inappropriate treatment of women at parties in the early 1980s.
