India inks deal for S-400 purchase from Russian Federation on Putin's visit

Skripal is a ‘traitor & scum,’ not some rights activist – Putin

Washington has warned that the purchase of the air defense system would be a "significant transaction" violating a US law passed previous year under which countries trading with Russia's defense and intelligence sectors face the threat of sanctions.

India, meanwhile, is keen to deepen ties with the United States but not at the cost of severing a long-standing defense relationship with Russian Federation.

Russian President Vladimer Putin in his speech said India and Russia enjoy a relationship of mutual interest. Indian Air Force chief BS Dhanoa said on Wednesday that the S-400 systems would be a booster dose for the IAF that is grappling with shrinking combat capabilities. The deal demonstrates the highest level of trust and understanding between India and Russian Federation.

Stating that the intent to slap sanctions on Russian Federation was to impose costs for its "malign behaviour", the U.S. also made it clear that any waiver will be considered on a transaction-by-transaction basis, adding it can not prejudge any sanctions decisions. India has purchased a missile defense system from Russian Federation, putting the nation at risk of being hit by USA sanctions.

Upgrades in arms systems "including the S-400 air and missile defense system" would be a particular focus for CAATSA, a US State Department spokesperson was quoted as saying by India s PTI news agency.

PIBPrime Minister Narendra Modi today said India is emerging as a shining star among world economies and the government is working on a number of reforms to boost this.

Forget Canada and Mexico. It's all about China
They have to keep us happy , because they understand that we're wise to what's been happening", Trump claimed on Monday. The U.S. first proposed phasing out Canada's dairy system in NAFTA talks and eventually sought more moderate demands.

In recent weeks, US officials have declined to make any promises about what would happen if India went ahead with the S-400 purchase.

India and Russian Federation have been discussing the purchase since 2015.

Named after former Indian Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is a flagship initiative school set up by India's policy think tank NITI Aayog to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among future generations. - President Vladimir Putin sought on Thursday to nail down billions of dollars worth of arms deals with India, as New Delhi walks a tightrope between Moscow and Washington with a wary eye on China.

India's acquisition of the S-400 long-range missile systems has been considered critical to countering a perceived threat from China, which is increasingly making economic inroads throughout South Asia, India's traditional sphere of influence, according to military experts.

Putin, who was received by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on his arrival, went straight to Modi's official Lok Kalyan Marg residence where the two leaders had a one-on-one meeting.

Ties received a boost past year when Modi and Putin held a fruitful annual bilateral summit, followed by meetings in Astana and at the G20 in Germany.
