Brett Kavanaugh confirmed to Supreme Court

A woman named Susan Collins - just like the Republican Maine senator who voted to confirm Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court - said 'I feel your pain!' Chief Justice John Roberts administered the Constitutional oath, and retired Justice Anthony Kennedy administered the judicial oath, according to a Supreme Court statement, "so that [Kavanaugh] can begin to participate in the work of the court immediately".

Kavanaugh was confirmed to the court on Saturday by a razor-thin margin in the Senate, ending months of partisan rancor over his nomination and offering Donald Trump one of the biggest victories of his presidency. United States president Donald Trump had nominated Kavanaugh on July 9, 2018, as a replacement of Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy.

In a separate appearance on CBS News's "Face the Nation," the majority leader predicted that the anti-Kavanaugh protests will backfire by energizing the Republican base in the November 6 mid-term elections, in which the GOP is looking to hang on to its majorities in the House and Senate.

"There was no corroboration on Brett Kavanaugh's bald assertion that he didn't do it, because the people that the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed, which was a - just a small number of the dozens that they should have interviewed, they all said that they have no recollection", Hirono continued.

"This is a great day for America", Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told Fox News late Friday, congratulating his colleagues for "refusing to roll over under all of this intense pressure".

Hours before the vote, more than 1,000 protesters, mostly women, broke through barricades and staged a raucous sit-in protest on the US Capitol steps, just feet away from the imposing doors to the Rotunda.

Ford testified in the Senate Judiciary Committee that Kavanaugh had drunkenly attacked her at a party when they were teenagers in the early 1980s.

Senate confirms Brett Kavanaugh to US Supreme Court
Murkowski announced Friday that she would be pairing her vote with Daines as a professional courtesy and a gesture of goodwill. Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch , seen as solidly conservative, to the court shortly after he took office in January 2017.

Her comments at The New Yorker Festival seemed to indicate that other viable candidate might exist in the state.

McConnell said the confirmation fight had energized Republican voters and he praised GOP senators, who he said had "stood up to the mob" in favor of the "presumption of innocence".

"What I have seen on the news with this debate of Kavanaugh versus Dr. Ford, it's one of the most upsetting things I've ever witnessed", Lady Gaga, music sensation and star of the newest incarnation of "A Star is Born", told Stephen Colbert and his TV audience.

Hirono's assertion that there was corroborating evidence that supported Ford's story is false, as prosecutor Rachel Mitchell specifically noted in her 5-page memo on Ford's testimony. Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

In the final minutes before the vote, Democrat Chuck Schumer acknowledged the depth of feeling about Kavanaugh's nomination. "The energy level is high". Capitol police dragged some screaming protesters out of the chamber. But they were not immediately visible in the area around the legislature.

Trump has slammed the demonstrators and accused them of being "paid" by Democratic mega-donor George Soros to "make senators look bad".

But Democrats hope women angered at the Kavanaugh accusations will turn out in large numbers to vote out Republicans.
