NYPD Investigating Suspicious Packages at Time Warner Center

House in Washington DC

Investigators are homing in on a postal facility in Opa-locka, Florida, where they believe some of the packages originated, another official said.

The suspicious devices are either at the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Va., or on their way there now, authorities say, where the FBI's specialists will reach conclusions as they continue their examinations. De Niro, the co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, is a vocal critic of Trump.

"There's a number of devices and there's a pattern apparently with them", he said. Officials provided no details on a possible suspect or motive.

But the packages, sent to prominent Democrats critical of President Donald Trump, heightened nationwide tensions and fears two weeks before major congressional midterm elections. "It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description".

A bomb addressed to former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan was sent to the headquarters of CNN, a media outlet that has been critical of the president.

In addition to the race hatred and lies he spreads on a regular basis, this week he encouraged direct violence against the media. "Clean up your act.try to act Presidential". "Make no mistake", NY police chief James O'Neill told a news conference, refusing to divulge any leads investigators may have. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, another prominent Democrat.

The package was delivered by courier, law enforcement sources said. The official said the devices were made from PVC pipe and covered with black tape.

Homeland Security Director Kirstjen Nielsen, in an interview Thursday night with Fox News Channel, acknowledged that some of packages originated in Florida.

In the package police found an envelope with white powder and a working explosive device.

Former US President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were among the targets of suspected package bombs delivered to several high-profile Democrats and CNN, which the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was investigating as an act of terrorism.

The FBI said the package intended for Clinton was found in the vicinity of her residence in Chappaqua, New York, but offered no additional comment, citing the ongoing investigation. This was near the address of a restaurant owned by Robert De Niro. The actor dropped an expletive insult at Trump at this year's Tony Awards and also apologized to Canadians for the "idiotic behavior of my president". Biden said last week that the president may not "know what he's doing" and coddles dictators.

The discovery of the packages came after a small bomb was found earlier this week at the home of billionaire liberal donor George Soros, in the New York City suburb of Katonah.

Saudi Arabia pledges $6bn to Pakistan amid economic crisis
Diplomatic sources later confirmed that the Pakistani delegation reaffirmed their support to Saudi Arabia during their crisis. Like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan is a majority Sunni nation with a Shiite minority.

The bombing attempts comprise just the latest - and potentially most unsafe - example of extremist elements feeling empowered by presidential rhetoric, said Kamran Bokhari, a Washington-based political science lecturer with the University of Ottawa's Security and Policy Institute.

On Wednesday, the US Secret Service announced they had found similar packages addressed to former first lady Hillary Clinton and former US president Barack Obama.

Trump also refrained from mentioning his 2016 rival, Hillary Clinton, and Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, two of his most frequent punching bags. A Wasserman Schultz district office in South Florida was listed as the return address on the packages, in what current and former investigators said was a feint suggesting particular antipathy on the part of the bomber toward her.

CNN's NY bureau in the Time Warner Center was evacuated shortly after 10 a.m. after the discovery of a package containing a bomb, said law enforcement officials.

CNN's Evan Perez also reported that the device sent to the White House "contained projectiles".

Even as Trump touted civility at Wednesday night's rally, some of his most influential supporters were suggesting - without evidence - that Democrats were involved in a "false flag" operation created to garner sympathy.

"Don't let the terrorists win", he said.

"I've seen the guy maybe 80 times and I never said a word to him because I had a feeling he was a little off", said Weiss, a 56-year-old building superintendent who has lived in the neighbourhood for eight years. "Have you ever seen this?"

Not even 24 hours later, Trump was back to his old self on Twitter, seeming to blame the media for what is happening.

"We have to come together and send one very clear, strong, unmistakable message that threats or acts of political violence have no place in the United States of America". "This egregious conduct is abhorrent".

And on the other side of the spectrum, Republican congressman and House majority whip Steve Scalise was one of several people wounded in June 2017 by a rifle-toting left-wing activist who died in the ensuing shootout with police.

The sources said Sayoc had a criminal history and also had ties to NY.
